Education

Members-only events

BCAM holds regular members-only educational events on topical issues, covering subjects ranging from treatments and complications to VAT and appraisals. These free events have been hosted on Zoom throughout the pandemic, either as breakfast sessions or BCAM brunch meetings.

Members can benefit from CPD-equivalent points for these events and are encouraged to suggest topics and speakers.

BCAM also launched its 20th Anniversary Mindfulness and Wellbeing Initiative in 2021, offering holistic support for members during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This was launched with a Zoom session hosted by Ruth Ormston, Deputy Director of the world’s first policy institute on Mindfulness, The Mindfulness Initiative. BCAM was the first organisation in the aesthetic medicine sector to launch a wellbeing programme for its members.

Videos of members-only events and other educational materials can be viewed in the members area of the BCAM website.

Annual Conference

The annual BCAM conference is held every September at Church House in Westminster, one of London’s most impressive event venues. The conference attracts delegates from across the globe to hear presentations from some of the most influential and prestigious names in aesthetic medicine.

In 2020, BCAM became the first organisation in the aesthetics sector to hold a virtual conference due to Coronavirus restrictions. The event spanned six days and drew a big virtual audience who listened to speakers on complications management, body contouring and weight control, women’s health, skin of colour management and Covid wellbeing management.

The event also provided updates from legal counsel in relation to the Covid situation, the Department of Health & Social Care, the GMC and insurers.

The conference is the biggest event in the College’s calendar and attracts sponsorship from industry leaders who are keen to support the premier event in the aesthetics arena. Please click here to visit the conference website.

BCAM examination

In its 20th anniversary year, BCAM is launching a membership exam to create a pathway from Associate to Full Member. The exam is set at masters level and involves a multiple choice paper and an objective structured clinical examination.

The exam has been created to further advance the College’s key aims of education and raising standards. Associates who have been members for at least two years and have completed two consecutive Annual Clinical Reviews are eligible to sit the exam.

Dr Dalvi Humzah, Chair of the BCAM Exam Committee, said: “In a sector where there are variable standards, the MBCAM has been designed to reflect the current medical standards of professionalism, knowledge and skills required of an aesthetic medical practitioner. This will set the standards for the sector now and going forwards into the future.”

The exam is expected to become the ‘gold standard’ in aesthetic medicine, providing a benchmark against which aesthetic doctors can be measured.

Appraisal support

Eligible members are able to undergo appraisal and revalidation through BCAM as a designated body. BCAM provides extensive support for those who choose this option, and members have access to some of the leaders and pioneers of aesthetic medicine through their BCAM membership.

Mentorship

The BCAM membership pathway enables those starting out in aesthetic medicine to be mentored by experienced doctors with a wealth of knowledge and expertise. The Graduate Affiliate programme offers the option of quarterly mentoring sessions to guide participants through the BCAM curriculum, culminating in an exam to achieve Associate Member status.

Buddies

New Associate Members can request a BCAM buddy to support them in their career in aesthetic medicine. Buddies are full members of the College with extensive experience in the sector who have volunteered to help those new to the sector. Many aesthetic doctors work independently without the support of colleagues so buddies offer a valuable sounding board and second opinion.
