Facial Dermatoses in Aesthetic Practice: Recognition, Risk Management and Rational Prescribing with Alison Colville

Facial dermatoses are highly prevalent as a presentation in aesthetic practice. This webinar is designed for doctors working in aesthetics who want a structured, clinically robust approach to the common inflammatory skin conditions we see every day.

Drawing on a GP-led perspective with strong primary care dermatology experience, the session will focus on acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis and seborrhoeic dermatitis as the four key facial dermatoses that can complicate or contraindicate aesthetic interventions, influence treatment choice, and impact outcomes.

We will cover:

• Recognition & pattern recognition
• Typical and atypical presentations of acne, rosacea, perioral dermatitis and seborrhoeic dermatitis
• Clinical “red flags” that should prompt urgent or specialist referral
• Distinguishing between overlapping conditions (e.g. peri-oral dermatitis vs seborrhoeic dermatitis)
• Diagnosis, documentation
• How far we should go in diagnosing medical conditions in an aesthetic setting
• Practical considerations for non–CQC-registered clinics: language, documentation and when to avoid making a formal diagnosis
• Management strategies and scope of practice
• Evidence-based first-line and second-line options for each condition (topical and systemic)
• What is realistically deliverable in an aesthetic clinic vs what should be managed in primary care/dermatology
• When and how to pause, modify or avoid aesthetic treatments (e.g. energy-based devices, peels, injectables) in the presence of active dermatoses

By the end of the webinar, attendees should be able to:

• Confidently recognise the key facial dermatoses relevant to aesthetics
• Understand the limits of what can and should be done in a non–CQC-registered aesthetic clinic
• Apply structured management plans where appropriate, or safely signpost/referral where not
• This is a clinically focused session aimed at help aesthetic doctors practice safely and confidently at the interface between dermatology and aesthetic medicine.
