Join us for the BCAM Brunch: Understanding Mitochondrial DNA damage as a skin biomarker with Professor Mark Birch-Machin!

Date: Tuesday 26th November

Time: 12:30pm-1:30pm

Professor Mark Birch-Machin is a recognised world leader in the field of molecular dermatology and his group at Newcastle University has pioneered research into the mitochondria’s role in skin ageing since 1995. His research group focuses on the response of human skin to ultraviolet radiation within the context of skin ageing, particularly involving the role of mitochondria, and he has published extensively including three different Nature journals. He also has interests in understanding the role of mitochondrial DNA in UV-induced oxidative stress and the relationship between nutritional status and skin ageing as well as the science and use of sunscreens. For the last fifteen years he has been developing the technology behind the Skin Life Analytics test and its application in improving skin health.

Session Overview:
The mitochondria are the batteries in our cells and as we age they become inefficient
and show an increase in damage, eventually this downward trend leads to skin ageing.
The webinar will look to educate and explain how external and internal stressors can
increase damage to the mitochondria and therefore accelerate skin ageing. Conversely if
these stressors can be managed through active interventions, the pace of skin ageing
can be slowed.

Don't miss this opportunity to deepen your knowledge and improve patient outcomes!

This Session is sponsered by Skin Life Analytics.
